Freshman Kennedy Gilbertson won the 200 meter IM and was part of the first-place 200 medley relay as Wisconsin Rapids downed La Crosse Logan 108-47 in a nonconference dual meet Monday.

Raiders freshman Ellie Heimen also won the 200 free. The Raiders won all but two varsity races in the meet.

Grace Hartman was first in the 100 free, and Libby Schuerman and Maddie Esselman won the 100 back and 100 butterfly, respectively.

Schuerman and Hartman were part of the 200 medley relay team as well.

The sixth-ranked Panthers earned a close win over the No. 1 Old Abes.

It was the first win over the Old Abes during SPASH coach Gary Baier’s tenure.

“Eau Claire Memorial is a perennial power and the fact that they were No. 1 made it that much sweeter,” Baier said. “This past week, our girls had a new resolve, knowing that we could compete with the best.”

No. 1 singles player Emily Luetschwager won in straight sets and did not give up a game, while freshman Sabrina Tang outlasted Emily Papperl 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to win at No. 2 singles for the Panthers.

After splitting the singles matches, SPASH turned the tide in its favor by picking up straight-set wins from the teams of Jaide Barber and Juliet Champion, along with Madison DeBot and Kayla Stutesman at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively.

Charles Payant, Nadim Torbey, Nick Malvorth, Tyler Fuerlinger and Farid Torbey scored goals. Evan Dieringer was credited with two assists, while Kellen Heinzen, Calvin Brown and Torbey had one each.

Bailey Keffer recorded the shutout in the goal.
