Prep softball roundup: Apollo sweeps Brainerd




St. Cloud Apollo handed two losses Thursday to Brainerd, knocking the Warriors out of first place in the Central Lakes Conference softball standings.

Host Apollo won the first game 5-2, then beat Brainerd 4-2 in the nightcap.

Apollo was led by Kallie Mathieson, who was 3-for-6 in the two games.

Hannah Reichl picked up the win in game 1.

Jordan Sterling pitched a complete game to win game 2 for Apollo.

Brainerd falls to 4-3 in the CLC and 7-5 overall. Apollo is 6-3 in the conference and overall. St. Cloud Tech went into Thursday 4-1 in the conference and is now its leader.

Granite Ridge


A six-run fourth inning propelled St. Cloud Cathedral to a Granite Ridge Conference win over Little Falls.

Rylee Medelberg and Andi Ramler each homered for the Crusaders. Medelberg finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored and four RBI. Ramler finished 1-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Nicole Prom got the complete-game win for Cathedral, giving up six hits, two runs and one walk.

Kristin Stewart hit a solo home run and tripled and scored both runs to lead Little Falls. Jordan Schuett went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

ALBANY 15, FOLEY 5 (5 innings)

Brooke Swarthout went 3-for-3 with a grand slam and five RBI for Albany in a Granite Ridge Conference win over Foley.

Albany scored 10 runs in the first to kick off the game.

Emily Schoenberg and Abby Silvers each went 2-for-3 for the Huskies (5-3 GRC, 8-3 overall).

Ellie Manderfeld went 2-for-4 to lead Foley.

BECKER 10, ZIMMERMAN 0 (5 innings)

Haley Harmon allowed one hit over five innings to lift Becker past Zimmerman. Harmon was 2-for-3. Erika Schwartz was also 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs (10-0).

Zimmerman’s lone hit came from Anissa Rosario.


Rachel Airhart went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, Kristina Loegering went 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI, and pitcher Hannah Johnson had 11 strikeouts to help the Wolves defeat the Mustangs.

West Central


Justine Revermann went 3-for-4 with four RBI to help Paynesville beat Melrose.

Avri Bitz and Whitney Austing each had two hits and Abby Hinnenkamp homered for the Dutchmen.

Allie Stanger went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI to lead Paynesville.

Kayla Schaefer went 2-for-4 with one RBI for the Bulldogs.


Pitcher Amanda Lahr got the win and had two strikeouts to help the Mainstreeters defeat the Warriors.

Lahr went 2-for-2 and scored a run, Brooke Fetterer went 2-for-3, had two runs scored and two RBI, and Madison Moritz went 2-for-4, had a double and two RBI for Sauk Centre.

Peyton Weis went 2-for-4 and had an RBI for BOLD.

Central Minnesota

ROCKFORD 5-13, EV-W 4-4

McKenzy Belanger went 2-for-3 and had an RBI, and Allison McNeal went 2-for-3 to help the Rockets defeat the Eagles in the first game of a doubleheader.

Pitcher Bria Majeski earned the win.

Bobbi Block went 1-for-3 and had a home run for Eden Valley-Watkins.

In the second game, McNeal went 4-for-4, had five RBI, two doubles and a home run. Belanger went 1-for-4, had two RBI and a home run to help Rockford complete the sweep.

Emili Cain was the winning pitcher.

Brook Stang went 3-for-4, had an RBI and a homer for the Eagles.

KIMBALL 16-18, PIERZ 6-4

Pitcher Emily Utecht had five strikeouts and earned the win to help the Cubs defeat the Pioneers.

Becky Holtz went 3-for-4, scored three runs and an RBI. Lauren Libbesmeier went 2-for-3 had an RBI and a home run. Madison Libbesmeier went 2-for-5, had two RBI, scored two runs and had a double. Utecht went 2-for-3, scored three runs, had three RBI and a jp,er.

Brianna Meyer had a double and Elizabeth Carson homered for Pierz.

In the second game, Madison Libbesmeier earned the win and had 10 strikeouts.

Utecht went 3-for-5 scored three runs, had eight RBI two doubles and a grand slam. Madison Libbesmeier went 3-for-3 scored fve runs had two RBI and two doubles. Katie Merchant went 2-for-3 scored two runs had three RBI and a home. McKenzie Leiter went 3-for-4 with a triple and RBI and a triple for the Cubs.



Alecia Kaelke went 3-for-4, had a single, a double and a home run to help the Silverstreaks defeat the Royals.

Krista Fearing went 2-for-4, had a triple and a double, and pitcher Rylee Mickle got the win for Osakis.

Kayla Eli and Haley Olson both went 1-for-3 for Royalton.
