DEPEW, NY – It seemed Williamsville South had a spot in the Sectional semifinals locked up last season. The Billies led the Bulldogs 21-3 at halftime but Hamburg rallied to win 40-34 in overtime. This year, Will South has some unfinished business and will rely on an experienced offense.
“I think we’re going to be pretty good this year. We have four receivers coming back, one being Matt Foster who I believe is the best guy in the area,” Williamsville South head coach Kraig Kurzanski said at the Kensington Lions Club All Star Game.
Will South graduated its quarterback, Sam Castronova. This season, the starting job goes to Jack Holyoke.
“Jack just accepted a baseball scholarship to St. Bonaventure so he’s a great athlete and he’ll play well for us,” Coach Kurzanski said.
Right now in early stages of the preseason, Coach Kurzanski says it’s his defense that has the edge over the offense.
“I think defensively, we return a few more starters there. I think defensively we’ll be better than we were last year. We have three out of our four defensive backs back so we have a little bit more experience on the defensive side of the ball.”
The Billies don’t face Williamsville East this season so their rivalry game is against Williamsville North.
I” like playing every week so it just builds. We have Sweet Home on the schedule as well and we open up against St. Francis. So how much do I look forward to the rivalry game? Quite a bit, it’s week seven but every week is a different week,” Coach Kurzanski explained.
Williamsville South opens up the season on Friday, September 4th at St. Francis. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
