Providence’s Marissa Hornung has verbally committed to play college volleyball at Purdue University.

Hornung, a sophomore outside hitter, was one of the stars who powered the Pioneers to the Class 3-A state championship. She totaled 464 kills, 335 digs and 55 blocks as Providence finished 37-3 and won its third consecutive state title.

Hornung also played a key role as Providence won the Class 2-A title in 2014.

Purdue, currently ranked No. 17, is coached by Dave Shondell. The Boilermaker, 22-9, will compete in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at Texas on Thursday night.
