Credentials: Competing in the St. Thomas More’s Linear Controls Girls Tournament last week, 6-1 senior forward Whitley Larry helped the Lady Wolves sweep three games in the event by collecting 36 points, 36 rebounds, 13 steals and 28 blocked shots.
“She was good at blocking shots last year, but she’s even better this year,” Rayne coach Chester Randall said. “She allows us to be so aggressive on the press, because we know we’ve got her back there.”
Background: In addition to being an adept shot blocker, Larry has also improved offensively.
“Her post game has improved,” Larry said. “She can play with her back to the basket. She has developed a few moves that she didn’t have that the last three years.”
Lagniappe: Larry and the Lady Wolves reached the state quarterfinals last season, falling to defending state champion Salmen 51-48. Larry and her teammates will now head back to Lafayette Parish to face more tough competition in St. Thomas More, Scotlandville and Slidell in the Acadiana High Tournament in Scott.
