Rapid City Central’s David Dolan has been named boys assistant coach of the year by the National high School Athletic Coaches Association. Dolan was honored at the National Awards Banquet held at the NHSACA’s annual meeting/seminar in Rochester, Minn., on June 17.
The longtime track and field coach and football assistant will also be honored next week – for 30 years of coaching service – at halftime of the SDHSCA’s annual all-star football game. In March at the Class A state boys basketball tournament, Dolan was awarded with a 25-year Officials Award by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS).
Other South Dakota finalists for coach of the year awards include: O’Gorman’s Steve Kueter (football); Watertown’s Bob Hirsch (wrestling); Everett Gebhart of Washington (track and field); Baltic’s Kurt Schultz (boys cross country); Todd Thorson of Ipswich (girls cross country); Bruce Kleinsasser of Aberdeen Central (cheer); Beresford’s Beck Jensen (girls assistant coach); and Sioux Falls Public Schools Athletic Director, Mark Meile.
NHSACA Hall of Fame inductees from the state include Fran Esser (Redfield) and Sheri Keck (Rapid City). Former RC Stevens cross country coach Forry Flaagan was given the Dwight Keith Award, the NHSCA’s highest honor.
