The Regina baseball team defeated West Burlington 8-6 Saturday night in a Class 2A district final in Wellman.

Regina (15-14) controlled the pace of the game, scoring two runs in the first inning, two in the third, three in the fourth and one in the seventh. West Burlington (20-9) scored one run in the second, two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth.

Jake Gahan helped lead offensively for the Regals, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Luke Gallagher added a 2-for-4 performance of his own with two RBI, while Andrew Adamec went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Gallagher started on the mound and pitched 52/3 innings. He allowed six runs on 10 hits while walking two and striking out four.

Jordan Nelson entered out of the bullpen, striking out the only batter he faced. Payton Raso pitched a scoreless seventh for the save. Raso struck out the side.

Regina will play Mediapolis (20-9) in a Class 2A substate final at 7 p.m. Tuesday at West High.

•LONE TREE 3, PEKIN 1: Ross Swinton and Erik Murry combined for a two-hitter as Lone Tree upended Pekin in a Class 1A district final in Lone Tree.

Swinton pitched 41/3 innings before handing off to Murry, who went the final 22/3 innings.

Lone Tree manufactured all three of its runs throughout the contest as the Lions tallied four hits.

Jovonte Squiers scored on a passed ball, Ty Schillerstrom hit a sacrifice fly to score Nick Viner and Jake Viner bunted Murry home on a suicide squeeze.

Lone Tree will play Van Buren (28-0) in a Class 1A substate final at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Fairfield.
