The Sanford Wellness Performance Center has a new name, taking after its retiring director in a ceremony Monday unveiling the Cal Hanson Performance Center. The naming honors Hanson’s 30 years of service and distinguished career supporting health and fitness.
Hanson, 72, started work at the center as a volunteer in 1985, working his way up to director in 1994.
In 1995, Hanson was named director of the Miracle 5K race, which raises money for Children’s Miracle Network and has since been expanded to include the half-marathon.
During Hanson’s tenure he also co-founded Sanford POWER, a sport and activity-specific training program. Sanford POWER has expanded to Fargo and provides player development programs for varying ages.
In 2005, Hanson started Women’s Wellness Center, an individualized program and exercise space at the main center.
