MARIETTA – The River View boys scored 101 1/2 points and the girls had 78 to win East Central Ohio League Gray Division titles during Friday’s league meet at Marietta.
The Black Bears’ Steven Scheetz set a school and meet record in the 3200 in 9:37 and joined Michael Hardesty, Lane Beatty and Chris St. Clair on the winning 4×800 relay, which broke a school record set in the 1980s with a time of 8:15.32.
St. Clair was a runner-up in the 800, Hardesty finished second in the 1600, Sawyer Neal took third in the 3200, the 4×200 and 4×400 relays were fourth, and Doug Boals (200), Beatty (400) and Marcus Watson (pole vault) were all fifth for River View.
Kelsey Strange won the 800 in a meet and school record time of 2:24.03, Bella Pendola took first in the 3200 (12:38) and third in the 1600, Brittany Schaefer, Kayla Metz, Whitney Fender and Grace Wherley were second in the 4×100 (:52.78), and Fawn Denbow was the runner-up in the pole vault (9-0) to pace the Lady Bears.
Grace Wherley came in third in the 200 and fifth in the 100, Kristen Douglass was third in the 300 hurdles, Brooklyn Douglass tied for third in the high jump and placed fourth in the 100 hurdles, Ann-Kristin Loferski finished third in the shot, the 4×800 relay was third, the 4×200 relay was fourth and Cassidi Bookless took fifth in the 400 for the River View girls.
River View’s Mike Gray and Vince Andrews were named the boys and girls coaches of the year as well.
Nick Kirkpatrick won the boys pole vault (14-0), the 4×100 relay came in fourth, and Nathan Leopard (shot), Marcus Carroll (100), Donald Stiteler (200) and the 4×200 were all sixth for the Redskins boys, who were eighth overall (29).
Tyra Woods cleared 9-10 to win the pole vault and took sixth in the long jump (15-4 1/2), Kennedy Haley placed third in the high jump (4-10) and the 4×100 was sixth to lead the Coshocton girls, who were ninth overall (27).
