The Motor City Riversharks 14U travel baseball team went 6-0 to capture the championship in the Meijer State Games of Michigan tournament held June 25-28 in Rockford.
The Riversharks opened with a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Arlington (Illinois) Cardinals. They closed pool play with a 4-0 victory over the 84th Street Sliders and a 6-1 victory over the Livonia City Thunder.
The No. 1-seeded Sharks — whose roster consists of players from Canton, Plymouth and Redford — went 3-0 in the June 28 single-elimination bracket format by toppling the Lakeshore Warriors, 14-4, in the quarterfinals before blanking the Precision Patriots, 8-0, in the semis.
In a rematch from the opening day of the tournament, the Riversharks mercied the Cardinals, 15-4, in Sunday’s championship game.
The gold-medal performance added to the impressive resume the Riversharks have compiled this summer, which has included first-place showings in the Memorial Day Classic in Canton and the CABA State Championships in St. Clair Shores.
