The final registration deadline for the area’s biggest tennis tournament is Friday.
The Francis J. Robinson Memorial International Tennis Tournament will accept entries until 5 p.m. Friday for the tournament, which runs Aug. 5-9 at Sanborn Park and the Port Huron Tennis House.
Cost is $40, as it is beyond the original July 26 deadline, and that would cover entry for one player in up to three tournaments — singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Cost also includes a “swag bag” and a Dri-Fit T-shirt.
The divisions offered for both genders are 10-and-under, 12-and-under, 14-and-under, 16-and-under, 18-and-under, Open, 35-and-over, 45-and-over, 55-and-over and 65-and-over.
The opening rounds of the singles tournaments will be held Aug. 5, doubles on Aug. 6 and mixed doubles on Aug. 7. Semifinal rounds will be played Aug. 8 — some will be played during the week if necessary — and the finals will be Aug. 9.
Mixed into that schedule on Aug. 7 will be a 10-and-under Kids Play Day from 1:30-3 p.m. and a Kids Day from 3-4 p.m. Both of those events are free and feature tennis activities geared toward the younger and beginning players. Registration for the 10-and-under play day are also due by 5 p.m. Friday.
For the second straight year, doubles partners can be brought in from outside the area. There will also be a one-point tournament for the second straight year, held at 4 p.m. on Aug. 8.
