Highlights from Chatfield vs Rock Canyon 5A state championship baseball 5/27/15
DENVER – The Rock Canyon Jaguars won their first 5A state championship in baseball after a 9-2 win against the Chatfield Chargers.
The Jaguars scored first on a balk call after Chris Givin, Xavier baseball commit, worked his way to third base. The Chargers would tie it up in the bottom of the first inning after pitcher Sean O’Dell ran home on a fly ball to center.
In the third inning, the Jaguars scored two runs on two hits to make the score 3-1 against the Chargers before leaving the top of the inning.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Chargers Jack Winkler (Miami of Ohio commit) scored on a double that landed in left field hit by Chad Schultz.
The Jags continued their run with Quinn O’Neill, who hit a RBI in the top of the fifth inning to bring in Chris Givin and make the score 4-2 Jaguars. Even after a Charger pitching change in the top of the fifth, the Jags would bring in another run before closing out the top of the inning.
Rock Canyon’s Nick Lamb was brought in as a pinch hitter at the top of the seventh inning. Lamb nailed an RBI single to right field to make the score 6-2 after yet another Charger pitching change. Rock Canyon wasn’t done scoring and added three more runs in the top of the final inning.
In the top of the 7th the game was postponed for almost an hour due to a lightning delay.
