Rockets crack into MAC win column

Rico Dowdle and the Reynolds boys had to work for their first Mountain Athletic Conference win.

They wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

Dowdle scored a team-high 16 points and snared eight rebounds in a 58-55 win over visiting McDowell on Thursday night.

Evan Gillis added 11 points and seven rebounds. Weston Hurd had nine points.

The game between the Rockets (8-7, 1-3) and the Titans (10-6, 2-3) was tight the whole way. Reynolds grabbed a 29-25 lead at halftime and each team scored 16 points in the third quarter.

McDowell was led in scoring by Tanner Dillingham (17 points), Quante Henry (12 points) and Isaac Hillman (11).

Dowdle is a junior who is averaging 14.8 points per game for the Rockets. He got a late start to season after football – Dowdle was the 2014 Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year in that sport.
