The Franklin D. Roosevelt High School football team has been plagued with injuries, and the team succumbed again in a 42-0 home loss to Washingtonville on Friday.

“We probably got about 16 varsity starters injured,” said Roosevelt coach Brian Bellino.

“It’s been bad this year… we’re on our fourth quarterback, and we only have one (starting) lineman this season who’s still playing.”

Although the Presidents didn’t post any scores, the coach credited Tyler Norman, who is “the last freshman standing,” for playing almost every defensive snap at strong safety.

“He’s not afraid to really get in there,” said Bellino of Norman.

Matt Amone, “a defensive player who’s been thrown into quarterback,” ran the ball well, said Bellino. “He had a couple of nice throws, too… We just couldn’t get it together to get a good drive.”

“We have a lot of sophomores, and we played hard, but physically we’re not as strong as the older guys, and not as fast as the older guys.”

Roosevelt (0-4) visits Valley Central Friday at 7 p.m.
