Roselle Catholic showed why it’s the best boys basketball team in New Jersey — and possibly beyond — with a 61-39 domination Saturday of The Patrick School (Elizabeth) thanks to a dominant second half.
Roselle, No. 5 in the pre-holiday Super 25, closed the game on a 30-7 run to win the rematch of the last two Non-Public B state finals. The teams will meet against twice but there won’t be another state finals matchup as the state association banned The Patrick School from the state tournament — and denied the school’s appeal — following five ejections in a tournament game in San Diego. This was the school’s first game since the appeal was denied.
The Patrick School took its only lead of the game at 31-29 with 3:49 left in the period, but it was all Roselle from there.
Chris Silva finished with 19 points and seven rebounds and Kentucky signee Isaiah Briscoe had 17 points and nine rebounds. Briscoe was held to three points in the first half and he didn’t have his first field goal until midway through the third quarter.
Roselle Catholic remains unbeaten with three of the four teams ahead of it in the rankings having a loss. No. 4 Findley Prep (Henderson, Nev.) remains unbeaten. The first Super 25 rankings of the new year come out Monday.
