Senior Luke Zajac went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI, as Dixie Heights defeated St. Henry 11-2 in the 34th district championship game Tuesday.
Junior pitcher Griffin Smallwood (3-3) struck out eight batters over five innings to earn the win. Senior JT Breeden was 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Nick Niehaus went 3-for-4 for the Colonels.
The Crusaders were led by junior Kevin Flaherty, who went 2-for-3 with a double.
Dixie (21-12), which finished ranked No. 5 in the Enquirer Northern Kentucky coaches’ poll, earned their third straight district championship. Both the Colonels and St. Henry (12-12) advance to next week’s Ninth Region tournament.
Newport Central Catholic 10, Bellevue 4, 36th district tournament: Senior Brandon Gray went 4-for-5 to lead the Thoroughbreds. Senior pitcher Grant Moeves (5-1) earned the win while also going 3-for-3 at the plate. Senior Zack Pangallo was 2-for-4 with two RBI, as Newport Central Catholic advaces to play the Highlands-Dayton winner Thursday for the district championship.
Simon Kenton 4, Grant Count 1, 32nd district championship: Eighth grader Kylie Kennedy went 2-for-2 with two RBI to lead the Pioneers.
Sophomore Anna Telesz was 2-for-3.
Sixth grade pitcher Macy Krohman (15-9) struck out three batters in the win, while also being named tournament MVP.
Notre Dame 16, Holy Cross 1 (three innings), 35th district tournament: Senior pitcher Haylee Smith struck out seven batters while also going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Sophomore Kennedy Baugh was 3-for-3 with a home run and five RBI.Sophomore sisters Angela and Erica Huston hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning to end the game.
Notre Dame will play in the district championship on Wednesday against Beechwood.
Campbell County 12, Scott 2 (five innings), 37th district tournament: Senior pitcher Mallory McGrath went 4-for-4, with a double and four RBI to lead Campbell County. McGrath also got the win on the mound.
Teammate junior shortstop Danielle Orick also had a big game at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a triple.
Campbell County advances to play Bishop Brossart for the district title Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Bishop Brossart.
Bishop Brossart 18, Calvary Christian 0 (three innings), 37th district tournament: Junior Ashley Childress and sophomore Macy Griffin each went 2-for-2 with two RBI to lead the Mustangs.
Junior Amanda Lloyd had a double and three RBI for Brossart.
