The Desert Chapel Eagles dispatched visiting Palm Valley on Friday night for a 56-22 victory.
The Eagles opened a 56-6 lead behind three touchdown passes from Kaleb Whan. Ethan Skarmas ran for four touchdowns and had a touchdown reception thrown to him by Dillon Foli. Josh Donaldson had a receiving touchdown and a two-point conversion.
Skarmas and Will Sutton both contributed defensively with interceptions.
“Our team played well from the start,” coach Jim Donaldson said. “We did well on both sides of the ball but we will look to improve and get better each week. It was a good night for some of our younger players to get some experience and show what they can do. They did a pretty good job playing varsity level and getting experience.”
Palm Desert 10, Xavier Prep 8: In a match that was rescheduled from an earlier rainout, the Aztecs edged the Saints for an unbeaten DVL record.
In the losing effort, Saints No. 1 player Tiania Jadulang won 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to sweep her sets. Marni McDowell added a 6-0 win.
In doubles for the Saints, Lilly Sun and Gillian Berg won twice 6-1, 6-1. Yajaira Castillo and Fernanda Gonzalez won once 6-1 and Megan McNulty and Sonja Hiller won a set 6-0.
Desert Christian Academy 3, Joshua Springs 0: The Conquerors continued to roll through league play with a 25-13, 25-13, 25-15 win.
Abby Wagner and Grace Johnson each had eight kills for DCA and Cami Frahmann added nine digs.
Desert Christian Academy (13-3, 10-0) plays at Redlands Adventist Academy on Tuesday.
Indio at Mt. Sac Invitational: Indio took 12th out of 19 state-ranked teams in the Division 3 sweepstakes race. They were paced by Luis Barrera (17th place, 15:54). He was followed by Mario Salazar (37th, 16:18), Erick Dominguez (73rd, 16:57), Andres Mejia (74th, 16:58) and Johny Diaz Reyes (80th, 17:07).
In the girls’ varsity race, Naibe Ruelas took 11th place for the Rajahs in 20:02. Marleen Romero was 26th in 21:09.
Shadow Hills at Riverside Showcase: In the girls’ race, Nyah Chavez medaled, finishing 11th overall in 21:12. Right behind her and also medaling were Paige Fullen (21:21, 13th) and Gabrielle Esquivel (22:53, 26th). Rounding out the Knights medalists were Jasmin Gallegos (24:03), and Mariana Anciso (24:04).
In the boys’ race, sophomore Isaiah Gonzalez continued his impressive season by medaling 10th overall, running 16:32. Also medaling for the Knights was Alejandro Grant (17:33, 29th).
The Knights conclude their regular season Oct. 31, competing in the De Anza League Finals at Rancho Mirage.
Palm Valley at Mt. Sac Invitational: Nick Kaufman led the boys’ team with a time of 19:45 followed by brother Oliver Kaufmann at 21:10. David Kocen had a time of 21:58 followed by Jacob Barton at 23:39 and Zach Jenkins at 23:53. Chloe Sweeney finished the girls’ race with a time of 26:59.
