Essex erased a two-goal lead in the fourth quarter and Henry Adams’ fourth goal of the day provided the overtime winner as the Hornets dropped Champlain Valley 10-9 at Buck Field.
Brendan Gleason added a hat trick and two assists, setting up the deciding goal, for the Hornets (1-0), who led 7-4 at halftime. Joe Galati had two goals and an assist, while Andrew Lounsbury made 15 saves.
Owen McCuin led the Redhawks (0-1) with three goals and an assist. Matt Palmer (two assists) and Dylan Schaefer each tossed in two goals and Matt Murakami stopped 16 shots.
•South Burlington 18, Mount Mansfield 3: Following up an eight-goal performance in the season opener, Cam Nolting racked up five goals and three assists to lead host South Burlington past Mount Mansfield.
Dylan Avery and Kyle Murakami each had two goals and three assists to aid the attack for the 2-0 Rebels. Mike Blauvelt made five saves.
COLLEGE WOMEN’S LACROSSE
•Stony Brook 12, Vermont 5: Going on a 6-0 run after halftime, visiting Stony Brook broke free to topple Vermont in America East action.
Jessica Roach paced the Catamounts (9-6, 2-2) with three goals and an assist. Elena McWright and Danielle Seifert also scored and Meg Hopkins turned aside four shots.
Kyle Ohlmiller powered the Seahorses (12-1, 4-0) with five goals and two assists.
•Stonehill 17, St. Michael’s 3: Elizabeth Vetter netted four goals as sixth-ranked Stonehill upended visiting St. Michael’s in Northeast-10 Conference play.
Kate Boyer, Melissa Jaskiewicz and Steph Bonewald had the goals for the Purple Knights (3-7, 3-6).
COLLEGE MEN’S LACROSSE
•Vermont 11, UMBC 10: Ian MacKay struck with 1 minute, 8 seconds left to cap visiting Vermont’s second-half comeback to beat Maryland-Baltimore County.
The Catamounts trailed 8-3 in the third period before rallying. Cam Milligan had a game-high six points (three goals, three assists) for UVM (4-9 overall, 2-2 league). MacKay added a hat trick and two assists and James Barlow scored twice.
Justin Rosenberg produced 18 saves to earn the win.
Nate Lewnes led the Retrievers (4-7, 0-4) with five goals.
•Bentley 8, St. Michael’s 5: A three-goal surge in the fourth quarter helped host Bentley pull away from St. Michael’s in Northeast-10 Conference action.
Cutler Diamond, Matt Brigham and Mike Giorgetti tallied during a stretch that gave Bentley a four-goal cushion in the final frame. Brigham and Chris Wiggins led Bentley (6-4, 5-3) with two goals apiece.
For SMC (4-6, 3-5), Mark Yetter scored twice and T.J. Bicknell made 10 saves.
•Stonehill 2, St. Michael’s 1: Back following a 22-day layoff, St. Michael’ lost at Stonehill to remain winless on the season.
Sarah Murray went 2-for-3 with an RBI and double fo SMC (0-11, 0-1), while Danielle Brown suffered the loss after yielding both runs on six hits in the complete game.
Stonehill (9-8, 3-2) did all of its scoring in the first inning.
•Assumption 13-5, St. Michael’s 4-11: Host St. Michael’s picked up its first Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division win of the season after splitting with Assumption.
Drew Salk piled up three hits and three RBIs and Michael Dougherty also drove in three runs in a two-hit day as SMC (5-14, 1-7) took the nightcap to salvage the split. Peter Cross earned the win after tossing five innings and allowing five runs and six hts.
In the opener, George Buteau went 3-for-5 and Nicky Elderton’s 2-for-4 effort included a triple, home run and two runs.
