KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Former Burlington High School girls soccer standout Madison Feeney is a college national champion.
Feeney and the Williams women’s soccer team captured the NCAA Division III national title on Sunday, posting a 1-0 win over Washington-St. Louis.
Last year’s Gatorade player of the year for Vermont, Feeney played in 37 minutes in Sunday’s final. Over the course of her freshman year at Williams, Feeney saw action in 22 games and earned three assists for the Ephs, who finished at 21-1-2.
Feeney, a two-time Free Press first-team all-state selection, tallied 20 goals and 10 assists in her senior year, helping the Seahorses reach the Division I final.
•Essex 47, Mount Mansfield 16: Mychaela Harton totaled 13 points and host Essex held Mount Mansfield to one field goal in the first half to cruise to victory.
Taylor Truax tossed in nine points for 2-0 Essex, which led 20-8 at the break.
•Rice 44, South Burlington 37: Lisa Sulejmani racked up 17 points and visiting Rice held off South Burlington’s second-half charge.
Jordan Lawrence chipped in 13 points and Stephanie Langlais added 10 for Rice (1-1).
Emma MacDonough recorded 19 points, five rebounds and five steals for South Burlington,. Elizabeth Khosrazi tossed in 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
•Colchester 25, BFA-St. Albans 22: Sage Papariello scored nine points and host Colchester used an 11-point third quarter to overcome a 12-8 halftime deficit in beating BFA-St. Albans.
Gabby Gosselin added five points for the Lakers. Hannah Earl led BFA with six points.
•Middlebury 44, Missisquoi 24: Keagan Dunbar tossed in 25 points and Middlebury built a 28-10 halftime lead in cruising past Missisquoi.
Tricia Wright paced MVU with seven points.
•Williamstown 45, Craftsbury 31: Jayme Ducharme tallied 17 points and nine rebounds to lead host Williamstown past Craftsbury.
Logan Metcalf added six points and five assists in the Blue Devils’ season-opening win.
Lizzie Brown’s 13 points and Mackenzie Blaney’s 10 paced Craftsbury.
•U-32 84, Spaulding 80: Jackson McCory totaled 28 points and host U-32 used a 20-point third-quarter to seize the lead and hold off rival Spaulding.
Kyle Booth (17 points) and Hayden Roberge (12 points) also contributed for a 2-0 Raiders squad that made seven 3-pointers.
Matt Allen drained five 3s and rolled up 37 points to power Spaulding (0-2), which had a 40-33 halftime lead.
Kolby MacAuley added 17 points and Keenan Child had 14 for the Tide, who sank 3-pointers.
• Enosburg 44, Milton 43: Ryan Brown raced up the floor and hit the game-winning shot as time expired, lifting Milton to the buzzer-beating victory at Enosburg.
Brown finished with a dozen points while Logan Bean led Milton with 15.
Matt Perley (12 points) gave Enosburg the lead with a pair of foul shots before Brown’s winner. Caleb Laroche paced Enosburg with 14 points.
•North Country 56, Colchester 50: Colin Myrick poured in 27 points as host North Country improved to 2-0 at Colchester’s expense.
Trety Azur also reached double figures for North Country with 13 points.
Thomas Meadows knocked down six 3s and finished with 26 points for the Lakers, who outscored the Falcons 25-15 in the fourth quarter in its comeback attempt.
•Fair Haven 80, Mount Abraham 35: Darren Brown’s 20 points paced three players in double figures for Fair Haven, which rolled past Mount Abraham.
Lucas Czarnecki added 13 points and Cam Coloutti put in 11 for the Slaters (2-0), who led 27-7 after the opening quarter.
Jackson Counter paced Mount Abraham (0-3) with 11 points.
