Junior Steve Rullo allowed just two hits in six innings and sophomore Tom Holdorf was 3-for-3 with three RBI as Freehold stunned Christian Brothers Academy, 10-0, Saturday in a Shore Conference Class A North game.
CBA (5-1) is ranked No. 1 in the Asbury Park Press Top 10 and was coming off the 1-0, eight-inning win over Marlboro on Thursday.
Holdorf gave Rullo, who walked two and struck out none, the only run he would need with an RBI double in the second. He added a two-run single in an eight-run sixth when the Colonials ended the game via the 10-run rule.
Junior Nick Zuppe was 2-for-3 with two RBI, including an RBI single in the third, and scored three runs.
Senior Dante Cuzzolino was 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run.
It was the first divisional win on the season for Freehold (3-3, 1-3), which moved into Class A North this season with the Shore Conference’s bi-annual realignment.
Freehold Township 11, Jackson Memorial 10: Senior Joe Silvestrone concluded a hot week by belting two home runs, including one with one out in the top of the eighth to give the Patriots (3-2) a wild 11-10 win over the Jaguars (1-4) in a nondivisional game.
Silvestrone, who also had a solo homer in the top of the first, has five homers in the last two games. He had three homers and four hits and eight RBI Wednesday at Manalapan.
Sophomore Mike Pirrotta had a two-run homer and was 2-for-4 with three RBI and senior Kyle Fenton had a two-run double in the sixth for Freehold Township.
Jackson Memorial, off to its worst start in many seasons, tied the game in the bottom of the seventh when Nick Rocco’s RBI single capped a four-run rally.
Rocco was 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI.
Rich Rountree was 3-for-4 with a homer, triple and three RBI and Chris Hawryluk was 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Jaguars.
St. Rose 4, Wall 3: Travis Cloney’s two-out, two-run double to right in the bottom of the sixth inning gave the Purple Roses (1-3) the win over the No. 3 Crimson Knights (2-2) in a nondivisional game.
John Kussmaul had a two-run single in the first for St. Rose (1-3).
Jason Criscuolo picked up the win by pitching 1 1/3 innings of relief.
Dan Wondrack went 2-for-4 with two doubles for Wall.
SJ Vianney 4, Rumson-FH 2: Zach Richards scored two runs on wild pitches, including the tie-breaking run in the top of the ninth, as the Lancers (3-1, 2-1) defeated the Bulldogs (1-2, 1-2) in a Class A Central game.
Dan Gesior scored the insurance run in the ninth on a throwing error and Kevin Callari scored the tying run in the seventh, when St. John Vianney scored twice, on an error.
Left-hander Chris Perez picked up the win by pitching 1 1/3 innings of relief.
John Michael Broderick struck out three and allowed six hits over the first 7 2/3 innings.
Morgan Maguire pitched the first eight innings and struck out eight over the first eight innings for Rumson.
Marlboro 2, Manalapan 1: Senior Andrew Nardi scattered six hits, struck out eight, walked five, two of which were intentional, and Jeremy Gerringer scored both runs as the Mustangs (5-1, 3-1) defeated the No. 9 Braves (4-2, 1-2) in a Class A North game.
Gerringer scored the winning run in the fourth on a wild pitch and scored the tying run in the second on a single by Chase Sandler.
TR North 10, Brick 0: Senior Doug Molnar pitched five innings of three-hit ball, Ryan Larsen went 2-for-2 with a sacrifice bunt and three RBI, Jeff Ciervo was 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and scored three runs, Mike Tiplady was 2-for-3 with two RBI and scored two runs as the No. 2 Mariners (4-1, 4-0) defeated the Green Dragons (4-1, 3-1) in a Class A South game.
Junior third baseman Joe Rose had a two-run double in the first, when Toms River North scored five runs.
Junior catcher Owen Sulfrian had a two-run single in the third.
TR South 7, Southern 2: Jake Ryan went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and four RBI and Chandler Thompson picked up the win by pitching four innings of relief as the No. 8 Indians (3-1, 3-1) defeated the Rams (0-6, 0-5) in a Class A South game,.
Monmouth 9, Shore 6: Senior Matt Vincenti plated the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth with a triple and went 4-for-4 with four RBI and scored two runs and Bill Herman picked up his first varsity win by pitching three scoreless innings of relief that included getting out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the fifth as the Falcons (3-1, 3-0) defeated the Blue Devils (2-3, 2-2) in a Class A Central game.
Justin Halper had a three-run triple in the fifth for Shore.
Brick 3, Point Boro 0: Mike Soldo and Nick Chirichello combined on a five hitter with 11 strikeouts, Dan Berg was 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run and Matt Greenberg was 2-for-3 and scored a run as the Green Dragons defeated the Panthers (1-4) in a nondivisional game,
Soldo struck out five and allowed three hits over the first four innings. Chirichello fanned six and allowed two hits over the final three innings to earn the save.
Nick Moglia had an RBI double.
Red Bank 1, Neptune 0: Sophomore Matt Santos struck out 10, walked none and pitched a complete-game two-hitter and Claude LoBraico had a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the second as the Bucs (1-4, 1-3) defeated the Scarlet Fliers (0-5, 0-4) in a Class B North game.
Matt Jegou had both of Neptune hits, including a double in the first.
Brick Memorial 8, North Brunswick 5: Matt Cuppari smacked a three-run triple and Tim Santiago had a two-run homer in the fifth as the Mustangs (3-5) erased a 4-3 deficit and defeated the Raiders in a nonconference game.
Cuppari was 2-for-3 with four RBI, a double, a triple and scored two runs.
Colts Neck 13, Matawan 0: Chris Murphy struck out six, walked three and pitched a five-inning two-hitter and Nick Umbro had three RBI, Tyler Kay was 2-for-2 with two RBI and Andrew Conforti also had two RBI as the No. 10 Cougars (5-0, 3-0) defeated the Huskies (2-3, 2-2) in a Class B North game.
Wall 17, Long Branch 0: Dan Wondrack belted a grand slam and Mike Nocchi struck out seven in five innings as the Crimson Knights (3-2, 2-1) rebounded from the loss to St. Rose with the win over the Green Wave (1-4, 1-3) in a Class B North game.
