Perhaps former Miami football coach Al Golden is just doing his homework for a job interview with Rutgers or maybe the process is further along than has been indicated.

Golden has not posted a tweet from his Twitter account since August, but Golden’s verified account has followed a number of the top programs and high school prospects in New Jersey in the last few days.

Gannett New Jersey reported Wednesday that there is mutual interest for Golden, a Colts Neck, N.J., native, to return to his home state as the next head coach of the Scarlet Knights. According to reports, Golden is at the top of new athletic director Pat Hobbs’ short list.

The Twitter feed of Paramus Catholic, home to Class of 2016 No. 1 overall prospect Rashan Gary, noted Tuesday that Golden had followed.

According to the list of Golden’s followers, he also added the feeds of Cedar Creek, the recruiting coordinator at New Milford and coaches at Timber Creek and St. Peter’s Prep.

He also followed a number of the state’s better recruiting prospects in the class of 2016 and ’17 such as tight end Devin Miller (Metuchen), cornerback Harrison Hand (Cherry Hill West), defensive back Emmanuel Appiah (Bergen Catholic), quarterback Jonathan Lewis (St. Peter’s Prep) and quarterback Kenny Pickett (Ocean Township), among many others.

This is not to suggest that Golden will be the next Rutgers coach, but where there’s smoke, there just might be fire.
