Father Ryan standout Lauren Dorrell was named the Tennessee’s Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year on Tuesday.
“She’s one of those that you will probably come across once in your lifetime,” recently-retired Midstate volleyball legend and Father Ryan coach Jinx Cockerham said. “Hitting is her forte.”
Dorrell helped lead the Lady Fighting Irish to their first state title since 2006, picking up championship MVP honors in the process with 90 kills in her final three matches.
The senior outside hitter missed 12 games due to a foot injury and still finished the season with 483 kills, 315 digs, 67 blocks, 44 serving aces and 23 assists.
“She’s a good team leader,” Cockerham said. “She’s calm on the court and she’s quietly confident.”
Dorrell is the first player in school history to be named Gatorade Player of the Year award.
The University of Colorado commitment,racked up the achievements in 2015.
She was voted to the All DII East/Middle first team, an AVCA UnderArmour second team All-American was named to the PrepVolleyball.com Super 100 Aces.
