KUSA – It’s a sport that most people don’t know exists, especially in Colorado.

That hasn’t stopped Morgan Fitzgerald and Kaden Sites of Salida High School.

The two and their captain/coach, Sam Heckman, just won the the Student Angler Federation High School Fishing State Championship at Lake Pueblo.

By winning the state tournament, Fitzgerald and Sites have now qualified for the Western Conference Championship on Clear Lake in California in September. If the two place in the top ten percent of the conference championship, they will advance to the National Championship in the Spring of 2016. The winner will each receive a $5,000 scholarship to the school of their choice.

The team from Salida netted five bass, weighing in at 10 pounds and 12 ounces.
