The St. Clair County Community College women’s basketball team defeated Henry Ford 83-70 Saturday, to remain in the conference title chase.
The Skippers got a balanced scoring effort, led by Milana Stromile, who scored 15 points to go along with four rebounds and three assists.
Leah Humes added 15 points, six rebound and two assists. Jasmine Parker had 10 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, Briann Alspaugh had 10 points and seven rebounds and Madison Valko had five points, seven rebound and five assists.
Tierra Kelley added eight points and three rebounds for the Skippers in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Eastern Conference victory.
“It was extremely balanced scoring,” SC4 coach Joel Whymer said. “We had four girls in double figures. We rebounded well, especially on the offensive glass. We had too many turnovers. We weren’t extremely organized and weren’t as focused on offense like we need to be.”
SC4 (11-3, 21-5) has won four consecutive games. The Skippers will return Monday at Mott Community College. The Skippers will conclude conference play at home Wednesday against Schoolcraft.
“On Monday at Mott we have to make sure we do a good job,” coach Whymer said. “They have guards that can score. We have to make sure we don’t look past them. We talked about the importance of every game. We have a great opportunity Wednesday to finish the regular season league champs.
“It’s a huge week. We have the opportunity to be league champs by the end of the week.
The SC4 men’s team meanwhile fell to Henry Ford 79-73 to extend its losing streak to eight games.
Christopher Parker paced the Skippers with 18 points, Tarayle Cates had 17 points and Matt Russell added 13 points and eight rebounds.
The SC4 men (2-12, 9-17) will also return Monday at Mott.
