One of the most accomplished athletes in West Henderson history is the new athletic director at Polk County.

Brandon Schweitzer replaces Jeff Wilson, who recently retired after 13 years.

Schweitzer graduated from West Henderson in 2002 as a state-champion wrestler and Shrine Bowl football player. He signed with the University of South Carolina in the latter, but then transferred to Gardner-Webb and resumed wrestling.

Schweitzer was the wrestling coach at Polk County from 2007 to 2011. He was named the Citizen-Times All-WNC Coach of the Year in 2008 after an 11-4 Wolverines squad reached the semifinals of the NCHSAA 1-A dual team playoffs.
