LARCHMONT — Battling crisp winds and frigid air, Suffern defeated Mamaroneck at Central Elementary on Wednesday, 12-2, behind hot hitting from its lineup and stellar pitching from starter Kate Wood.

After Mamaroneck scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the second inning, Suffern’s Ali Spinner hit a bases-clearing triple to right-center field to start a four-run inning. The Mounties would score eight more unanswered runs, including three off a bases-loaded double by Shannon Hart (pictured), before Mamaroneck scored on another passed ball in the sixth.

Wood was sensational, despite the inclement weather, striking out eight as part of a one-hitter to follow up her sister Allie’s 15-strikeout performance in the Mounties’ season debut. Tigers sophomore Mia Steinberg recorded the team’s only hit, a single in the second inning.
