Roosevelt 1, RC Central 0 at Yankton Trail – Omari Bigirimana’s goal in the 75th minute proved to be the difference for Roosevelt in its game against RC Central. Goalkeeper Tayler Moyer registered four saves. The Rough Riders advance to face No. 2 Aberdeen Central on Saturday.
CLASS AA GIRLS
Roosevelt 2, Brookings 0 at Yankton Trail – Grace Behm assisted on Marissa Class’ goal to open the scoring for Roosevelt, then notched one of her own to seal a 2-0 win for the Rough Riders over the Bobcats. Madisyn Waltman was in net for 80 minutes and made nine saves. Next up for Roosevelt is No. 1 RC Stevens.
CLASS A GIRLS
West Central 2, Vermillion 2 (3-3 in shootout, 1-0 in sudden victory shootout) at Yankton Trail – Olivia Becker delivered the goal and Hailee Fischer came up with the save in sudden victory to lift the Trojans over the Tanagers and into the second round of the Class A playoffs. Vermillion’s Natasha Samudzi answered Ashley Eickman’s go-ahead tally in the 62nd minute with the equalizer in the 72nd, then broke the stalemate with her second tally of the night in the 91st minute. However, Eickman retaliated for the Trojans, burying her shot to tie it at 2-2 in the 100th minute. Shootout goals from Alyssa Anderson, Rachel Ely and Gillian Watkins for West Central were negated by tallies from Madisen Martinez, Sowmya Ragothaman and Autumn Barnett to send the game into a sudden victory shootout, where Becker delivered the game-winner. Both goalies, Fischer for WC and Mady Gilbertson for Vermillion, finished with seven total saves. West Central advances to play Tea on Oct. 3.
VOLLEYBALL
Lincoln def. O’Gorman 26-24, 25-22, 25-20 in Lincoln – 11 kills and eight blocks from Anezka Szabo helped Lincoln top O’Gorman. The Patriots (4-7) picked up nine kills from Izzy Van Veldhuizen, 19 digs from Angie Lee and 16 from Anna Boyens. Allie Engel led the team with 37 assists. The Knights (5-4) scored a pair of aces and 10 digs from Grace Wallin to go with 10 kills and three blocks from Alex Anderson. Rylee Smith finished with five kills, as did Courtney Baruth, who also had 3.5 blocks. Both O’Gorman and Lincoln will participate in the Huron Tournament on Saturday.
Roosevelt def. Washington 19-25, 25-13, 25-23, 25-20 in Washington – After dropping the first set, Roosevelt rattled off three wins in-a-row to top Washington in four sets. Roosevelt’s Mikaela Ahrent had 11 kills, two blocks and Bailey Lamb 35 setting assists and three ace serves. Caryn Hazard and Kirsten Wiseman led Washington in kills with 15 and 12, respectively. Hailey Olson added four aces, while Emily VanBockern had 21 digs.
Sioux Falls Christian def. Vermillion 25-9, 25-11, 25-14 at Sioux Falls Christian – Kylee Van Egdom registered seven aces and Ellie Voss added a pair of her own to help Sioux Falls Christian beat Vermillion. Emily Strasser had 10 digs, and Shelby Zomermaand had 18 kills for the home team. Vermillion was led by Emily Bye, who had an ace and 16 digs. The Tanagers (1-15) will head to West Central on Thursday, while the Chargers (12-4) host Elk Point-Jefferson.

HONORS
Nic Behrens of Dakota State received another honor this week as he was one of the 21 place-kickers (and one of the three place-kickers from the NAIA division) on the Fred Mitchell Award list. The Fred Mitchell Award recognizes the place-kickers for their excellence on the football field and in the community during the month of September. The recipient of the Fred Mitchell Award will be announced in mid-December based on performance on the football field and in the community.
