Scottsdale Christian Academy’s boys basketball team is honoring junior forward Brad Swetonic’s father, Richard, in tonight’s home game against Northland Prep.

Richard Swetonic, a triathlete, is battling cancer. He just finished chemotherapy.

“We trust he is on the road to recovery,” coach Bob Fredericks said.

The team will wear maroon socks during “Cancer Awareness Night.” And, two weeks out of chemo, Richard Swetonic is expected to be there to support his son, who came one point short of a triple-double in a 12-point loss to Chandler Valley Christian this week. He had nine points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocks.

Earlier this season, in a tournament win against Division I Tempe Marcos de Niza, Swetonic had 18 points.

Special activities are being planned for tonight, Fredericks said.
