Fourteen Section 4 wrestlers received at-large berths into the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships to be held Feb. 27-28 at the Times Union Center in Albany.
All 14 berths came in Division II, including three for Watkins Glens with Brandon Gould (126 pounds), Josh Burge (170) and Ian Chedzoy (182) receiving nods. Also earning at-large berths into the state championships were Deposit/Hancock’s Dean Raymond (113) and Zach Gifford (220), Odessa-Montour’s Joe Rorick (120), Walton’s Logan Robinson (120), Susquehanna Valley’s Ian Lupole (126), Norwich’s Cole Rifanburg (132), Maine-Endwell’s Kobe Garrehy (138), Tioga’s Jesse Manuel (138), Whitney Point’s Nate Grubham (145), Lansing’s Greg Lee (145), and Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton/Harpursville’s Madison Hoover (152).
The at-large berths brings to 44 the number of Section 4 wrestlers that will be competing at the state championships. The 30 Section 4 champions – 15 each in Division I and II – received automatic berths last Saturday at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.
