SAUK RAPIDS – The Sartell boys swimming and diving team finished first at the Section 3A meet Saturday afternoon.
The Sabres won with a score of 527, which was well ahead of second-place Monticello (383).
Sartell had seven swimmers advance to state in 10 different events. The top three individuals, top three relay teams and top four divers qualified for the state meet, which takes place next week at the University of Minnesota.
Sartell junior Spencer Sathre led the way by taking first in the 200 freestyle (1:44.78) and the 500 freestyle (4:51.26) for the Sabres.
Sartell sophomore Mitchell Dockendorf took first in the 100 backstroke (53.89 seconds) and second in the 200 IM (1:28.71), senior Zach Weiler took first in the 100 butterfly (55.32 seconds) and third in the 200 IM (2:07.35), junior Jacob Schumacher took second in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.97), senior Chad Peichel took third in the 50 freestyle (22.40), sophomore Isaac Stark took third in the 100 butterfly (56.35) and senior Jake Martin took third in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.54).
The Sabres also advanced three first-place relay teams to state: the 200 freestyle relay (1:30.74), the 400 freestyle relay (3:21.08) and the 200 medley relay (1:39.37).
Sathre and Dockendorf were a part of the 400 freestyle relay team. Sathre and Peichel were a part of the 200 freestyle relay team. Dockendorf, Weiler, Martin and Peichel were a part of the 200 medley relay team.
Rocori’s Sam Meyer finished second in the 100 butterfly (55.94 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (56.97 seconds) to advance to state.
Sauk Rapids eighth-grader Jack Grabinski qualified for state, taking fourth in the one-meter diving event (353.85 points).

St. Cloud Tech finished third at the Section 8-2A swimming and diving meet at Tech High School.
The Tigers finished with a score of 359, placing behind second-place Elk River (366) and first-place St. Michael-Albertville (428).

Senior Anthony Schwartz took first in the 100 backstroke (52.62 seconds) and third in the 200 freestyle (1:46.50), junior Luke Heller took third in the 100 freestyle (49.51 seconds) and freshman Austin Paul took fourth in the one-meter diving (409.15 points).
Tech also had two relay teams qualify for the state meet. The Tigers placed third in the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.20) and third in the 400 freestyle relay (3:18.88). Schwartz and Heller were a part of both relay teams.
Tech freshman Davis Wendt took sixth (362 points) in the one-meter diving event.
