Seven area boys qualify for Division II regional track

Johnstown’s Josiah Annis won the pole vault (13 feet) on Tuesday during the first day of competition in the Division II District 2 meet at Westerville South. He was one of five area boys to qualify in District 2 competition. Two boys and a girls relay team qualified in the District 1 meet. They will all compete in the Division II regional May 27 and 29 at Lexington.

Licking Valley’s Tyler Crouse (12-6) finished second to Annis, with Lakewood’s Jesse Chirdon third (12-0). Other District 2 qualifiers were Lakewood’s Mat French second in the shot put (56-8.75) and Lakewood’s Major Henry second in the high jump (6-3).

In District 1 competition, Heath’s Robbie Brown qualified in two events, placing third in discus (128-8) and fourth in shot put (44-10.75). Utica’s Grant Ellis was fourth in the discus (128-1).

Johnstown’s Erica Cox, Grace Mast, Olivia McGee and Maddie Schulze placed fourth in the 4×800 relay (10:25.35) in the girls meet.

Competition continues Wednesday and concludes Saturday.
