After an undefeated regular season, Sheboygan Falls fell in heartbreaking fashion to Fox Valley Lutheran Friday night 20-14, ending their playoff run. In the regional opener the Foxes recovered a fumble in the end zone late in the fourth quarter which proved to be the game winner.
After not scoring in the first quarter the Falcons came out hot in the second, scoring on the first drive. Fox Valley Lutheran answered with a touchdown of their own but the two point conversion failed. Sheboygan Falls led 7-6 at the half.
Both teams would score again in the fourth but Fox Valley Lutheran stole the game with 3:47 left on the clock when Isaac Gerhardt’s recovered a fumble in the endzone to put the game away.
Sheboygan Falls’ Sean Mattek lead his team with 32 carries for 101 yards and one touchdown. The Falcons finished with 227 total yards and 13 first downs.
Freedom 49, Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran/Christian 8: In their regional opener, the Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran/Christian squad was down 0-35 at the half and was unable to recover.
The Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran/Christian team could not stop Freedom’s Isaac Gonnering who scored three consecutive touchdowns in the first and second quarter. Gonnering finished with 16 carries for 154 yards and three touchdowns.
Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran/Christian left seven touchdowns unanswered before they shut Freedom out in the fourth quarter and were able to get their only score of the game.
Freedom finished with a total of 608 yards and held Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran/Christian to 114 yards. Brayden VanEss led Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran/Christian in rushing and passing with 14 carries for 25 yards and completed 9 of 33 passes for 84 yards.
Kiel 19, Little Chute 7: The fourth-seeded Kiel football team fell behind early against No. 5 Little Chute but scored 19 unanswered to move onto Level 2.
The Raiders trailed 7-0 in the WIAA Division 4 Level 1 matchup and 7-6 at the half before Carter Voelker returned the second-half kickoff 89 yards to the house a 12-6 lead Kiel wouldn’t relinquish in the 19-7 victory.
Kiel visits top-seeded Freedom next weekend.
Southern Door 42, Oostburg 7: The seventh-seeded Flying Dutchmen fell to second-seeded Southern Door. No other details were available at press time.
Lake County Lutheran 21, Ozaukee 14: The sixth-seeded Warriors lost by a single possession to third-seeded Lake County Lutheran. No other details were available at press time.
Amherst 49, New Holstein 12: The eighth-seeded Huskies lost to first-seeded Amherst by 37 points. No other details were available at press time.
