Shiocton Chiefs pick up two softball wins

The Shiocton softball team picked up a couple of big wins Saturday, beating Xavier 4-1 and West De Pere 6-0 in a quadrangular at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Shiocton improves its overall record to 19-4 with the two victories.

“It was nice to see some top-level pitching,” Shiocton coach Dave Wilcox said. “The girls really responded and took that underdog role. We played pretty loose. They did a great job. It was a nice day for us and a great experience for the kids to play down there.”

Hannah Guyette had a two-run double during the Chiefs’ three-run first inning against Xavier. Kiana Williamson pitched a two-hitter and struck out three.

Sydney Wilcox pitched a five-hit shutout against West De Pere, striking out seven. Kiana Williamson had three hits.

Xavier fell to Menomonee Falls 6-3 in its other game. Rosie Johnson had two hits and an RBI for Xavier.

At Appleton, Marissa Mullen and McKenna Amo each picked up a pitching win as the Lightning swept the Foxes in a nonconference doubleheader.

In the first game, Mullen struck out five batters and allowed three hits in her complete game. Grace Garvey led the Lightning offensively with a grand slam in the second inning.

Garvey hit a three-run double in the second inning of the second game. Mullen and Katie Henning each added two RBIs for the Lightning.

Olivia Eichhorst and Miranda Skarban each hit a double in the second game for FVL.

At Oconto, the Bluejays lost to Oconto 4-2 and beat Wabeno-Laona 13-3.

The Bluejays got a standout performance from Julia Rhodes in their win over Wabeno-Laona. Rhodes went 2-for-4 with a double and five RBIs.

Against Oconto, the Bluejays managed just three hits off Becky Berth.

At Escanaba, Michigan, the Rockets finished with a 2-1 record after beating Rapid River (Mich.) 6-5, beating Cheboygan (Mich.) 7-5 and losing to Escanaba 2-1.

Stephanie Kaufert and Kate Dietzen each picked up a win for the Rockets.

Brianna Frost had two hits in the first game and three in the second with a double in each game.

Mae Chanvik also had a double and added two RBI in the first game.

At Waupun, the Wolves went 3-0 by beating Kewaskum 4-3, Wisconsin Lutheran 13-1 and Laconia 10-5.

Riley Kies hit a triple and Abby Weinert hit a double for the Wolves against Kewaskum.

Against Wisconsin Lutheran, Annika Gereau went 3-for-4 with a triple and a double. Theresa Cosmutto added a home run and a double. Hannah Peerenboom and Kylee Whitford each added two hits, including a double.

In the final game against Laconia, Sam Olson went 3-for-4 and had a double and two RBIs to lead the Wolves (18-7).
