Crucial late runs from Pinelands in the sixth, seventh, and ninth innings led the Wildcats to a Shore Conference Class B South comeback victory over Jackson Liberty 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon. Naomi Stas picked up her fourth win of the season with eight strikeouts.
Pinelands head coach Keith Lowe has liked what he has seen so far from Stas in the circle this season for the Wildcats.
“She is just really starting to get going now, and his improving everyday,” Lowe said. “Today she was able to hit her spots and just had good control.”
Kurstin Binshedler went 2-for-4 for Pinelands and scored the winning run of the game in the ninth inning. Nicole Burke also went 2-for-3 and Stephanie Healy hit a home run for Pinelands in the sixth inning. Amanda Cusicanqui went 2-for-4 with an RBI and the game winning fielders choice in the top of the ninth inning.
“This is a good road win for us, we also had a lot of close wins last season,” Lowe said. “Their pitcher did a great job today, but we put together some better at bats later in the game that helped with the win.”
Pinelands now moves up a spot in the loss column on Jackson Liberty for the Shore Conference Class B South division. Although taking the loss, freshman pitcher Meghan Conroy finished the game with eight strikeouts for the Lions.
Toms River North 4, Southern 1: Freshman Lauryn Schuber remained undefeated on the season and picked up her sixth win of the season leading the Mariners over the Rams in a Class A South meeting. Taylor Ward and Jade Warner both hit doubles for the Mariners in the win.
Brick 5, Toms River East 4: Samantha Le hit a game winning single in the bottom of the ninth leading the Dragons to a walk off win over the Raiders in a Class A South game. Jess McDonaugh went 2-for-3 with a home run and a double, and Julianna Forbes also went 2-for-4 with a double for the Dragons.
Alyssa Raimando went 2-for-4 with two doubles and Sam Lanzano also went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI for the Raiders.
Mater Dei Prep 3, St. Rose 1: Paige Fernandez secured her third win of the season after seven innings pitched with five strikeouts and just three hits allowed leading the Seraphs over the Purple Roses in a Class B Central game.
Maggie Klatt hit a double and Tyrah Graves also hit a triple for the Seraphs.
Henry Hudson 5, Point Beach 4: Ali Quast hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning leading the Admirals over the Garnet Gulls in Class B Central game. Emma Curry went 2-for-4 with a run scored and Quast also drove in a RBI single in the bottom of seventh to send the game into extra innings.
Kendall Keelen picked up her fourth consecutive win after striking out six on nine innings pitched.
Central 3, Manchester 0: Stephanie Pepper struck out 15 and gave up just one hit leading the Golden Eagles over the Hawks in a Class B South game. . Alyssa Jacoby had an RBI single in the fourth inning for the Golden Eagles.
