Lacey’s Chelsea Howard gave up just three hits and struck out 16 leading Lacey to a 7-0 Ocean County Tournament first round victory over Barnegat on Thursday afternoon. The Lions along with Howard picked up their seventh straight victory this season, remaining undefeated on the season.
Emily Dezendorf was 3-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBI, and sophomore outfielder Marissa Ilaria also added two singles with a run scored and an RBI for the Lions.
Lacey will square off against undefeated Toms River North on Friday afternoon.
Wall 8, Colts Neck 7: Jackie Howarth went 4-for-4 with a run scored leading the Crimson Knights to a close divisional win over the Cougars. Casey Desarno went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Colleen Brennan also had two hits for the Crimson Knights.
Natalie Farparan hit two home runs for the Cougars.
Pinelands 10, Point Beach 0: Naomi Stas went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI and Steph Healy also added 2 RBI leading the Wildcats over the Garnet Gulls in an OCT first round game. Kirstin Binshedler and Jesse Rising also had multiple hit for the Wildcats.
Marlboro 4, Freehold Township 2: Jenny Frometa went 2-for-3 with an RBI leading the Mustangs to a Class A North win over the Patriots. Phoebe Li and Macie Ditillo went 2-2 also each had an RBI for the Mustangs in the win.
Donovan Catholic 4, Manchester 0: Rebecca Drake picked up her eighth win of the season after seven innings with 10 strikeouts and just two hits leading the Griffins over the Hawks in a Class B South game. The Griffins pushed home the opening run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning after a Kelcy McGeehan double eventually led to a RBI single from Amanda MacBurnie.
Drake also had an RBI single and a run scored in the bottom of the sixth inning for the Griffins.
Middletown North 4, Manalapan 0: Riley Kernan picked up her fifth win this season leading the Lions over the Braves in a Class A North matchup. Nikki Alfano had 2 RBI, and Christine Gebhardt and Alyssa Vetrano each had two runs scored for the Lions.
Raritan 11, Holmdel 0: Alexa Sammarco went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI leading the Rockets over the Hornets in a Class A Central game. Michelle Nestor also went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Rockets.
Red Bank Catholic 15, Long Branch 0: Lindsay Benitez went 3-for-3 with two doubles and a triple leading the Caseys over the Green Wave in a Class B North game. Tess Griswold, Dana McCulloch, and Hannah Nagy also all hit doubles for Red Bank Catholic.
