It’s not all about what they are saying and where they are signing – check out what they are wearing!
USA Today High School Sports’ Sarah Gearhart weighs in on the standout signing day fashion statements.
Daishon Neal
High School: Omaha Central (Omaha, Neb.)
Signed with: Nebraska
Statement: Bucket hat
Sarah Says: C’mon Neal! At least his red Nebraska shirt draws some attention away from his bucket hat. Let’s just say it’s a good thing that hat will soon be replaced with a helmet.
Sam Awolope
High School: Fort Bend Marshall (Missouri City, Texas)
Signed with: TCU
Statement: Nigerian suit
Sarah Says: If you’re going to be bold about attire, go big! I support you Sam and way to honor your family heritage.
Preston Williams
High School: Lovejoy (Georgia)
Signed with: Tennessee
Statement: Suit and soft helmet
Sarah Says: This is for real? I’ll just say what we’re all thinking. He put too much time into this ensemble. The suit is cool and all, and the bow tie is a sweet thought, but that hat…I would say so unnecessary, but I admire his confidence.
Roquan Smith
High School: Macon County (Montezuma, Ga.)
Signed with: UCLA
Statement: Blazer and gloves
Sarah Says: So jazzy fresh — simple with a white button-down and black blazer, complete with what kind of looks like satin trim. Someone’s ready for Hollywood and his name is “the Roquan Smith”.
Byron Cowart
High School: Armwood (Seffner, Fla.)
Committed to: Auburn
Statement: Button-down and bow tie
Sarah Says: Premium! Sharp and smart. Cowart does it right with an orange button-down and another layer of pop with a playful bow tie. Thumbs up for this look.
DaMarkus Lodge
High School: Cedar Hill (Texas)
Signed with: Ole Miss.
Statement: Red alert
Sarah Says: The white and navy shirt and blazer combo is a little sleepy. Good on him for the spirited ball cap. Can’t miss Ole Miss.
Donte Jackson
High School: Riverdale ( Jefferson, La.)
Signed with: LSU
Statement: Straight chillin‘
Sarah Says: Considering this is one of the most important announcements he’ll make in the spotlight, one might have thought Jackson would care to spruce up his outfit. But nope (see headphones). Too casual. Too comfortable. Too…cool to care.
Drew Richmond
High School: Memphis University School (Tenn.)
Signed with: Tennessee
Statement: Brainy
Sarah Says: The look on Richmond’s face — proper, polite, happy — corresponds to his threads. Clap, clap, clap. Why the rims? If only these nerd glasses could go out of style. Oh wait…
