Six Midstate football players were included in the most recent Rivals250 for the class of 2016, which was updated earlier this week.
Father Ryan defensive back Joejuan Williams, who landed at No. 89, was the only Middle Tennessee prospect included in the top 100, while Nashville Christian linebacker Daniel Bituli (155), Brentwood Academy offensive lineman Bryce Mathews (171), Spring Hill quarterback Tylin Oden (204), Cookeville tight end Gabe Angel (221) and Brentwood Academy offensive lineman Ryan Johnson (243) also made the list.
All six prospects were assigned four-star rankings from the recruiting site.
Williams, a 6-3, 196-pound junior, recorded 48 tackles, two interceptions and 11 pass breakups as a junior in 2014. He holds scholarship offers from 30 Division I programs, including the entire Southeastern Conference.
“Honestly, I’m still at square one,” Williams said. “With all the offers I’ve gotten I haven’t really even thought about my top 10 or top five. I’m still completely open.”
Bituli, a second-team All-Midstate linebacker, tallied a team-leading 68 tackles (12 for lost yardage) and six sacks a season ago, helping lead Nashville Christian to a 12-1 record and a Class 1A semifinal appearance. The 6-3, 230-pounder also racked up 618 yards rushing and 19 touchdowns in 2014.
Oden, the athlete of the year in District 12-AA, tallied over 1,800 yards from scrimmage and 18 total touchdowns as a junior in 2014. The 6-5, 180-pounder holds scholarship offers from Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Kentucky and Louisville.
First-team All-Midstate selections Mathews and Johnson anchored a Brentwood Academy offensive front that paved the way for nearly 5,000 yards last season. The 6-6, 275-pound Johnson is committed to Tennessee, while the 6-5, 270-pound Mathews is still weighing his options.
Angel, an Ole Miss commit, is listed as a tight end, but the versatile 6-3, 212-pounder lined up all over the field for Cookeville a season ago. In addition to hauling in 18 receptions for 275 yards and three scores, he piled up 493 yards rushing and seven touchdowns in the Cavaliers’ run-heavy offense.
