North Hunterdon 7, Voorhees 6: Sophomore Melissa Meiners delivered a two-run single with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning Saturday and the North Hunterdon High School softball team rallied to a wild one, 7-6 over Voorhees in Clinton Township.
Megan Graham got things started in the third inning, reaching on of 10 walks drawn by the Lions (3-2) and then scoring on three wild pitches. The Vikings (3-2) responded with three in the top of the fourth, led by an RBI double by Erin Hollyfield and a two-run single by Melissa Will, who finished with three hits and three RBIs.
A two-out single in the fifth extended the Voorhees advantage to 4-1, before North tied it with three in the bottom of the inning, scoring on an error, an Isabella Many bases-loaded walk, and a sacrifice fly by Sarah Van Duynhoven. The Lions then took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a leadoff double by Meiners, who scored on a Graham RBI groundout.
But the Vikings weren’t done, and they took the lead in the top of the seventh on an RBI grounder by Hannah Schiavo and a two-out RBI single by Will. North Hunterdon then won it in the bottom of the seventh as Many led off with a walk, Van Duynhoven singled, Faith Lindabery bunted them over and Meiners delivered with two strikes.
Bridgewater-Raritan 4, Westfield 1: Megan Zinn doubled twice and drove in a ru,n and allowed no earned runs on six hits, walked two and struck out two to lead Bridgewater-Raritan. Sam Ward doubled in a run and Alyssa Natale posted two hits and two runs for the Panthers (4-1). Shannon Devitt notched two hits and Danielle Rinaldi doubled and scored a run for Westfield (2-3).
Hillsborough 10. East Brunswick 2: Kelly Amen doubled twice, scored a run and drove in four more as Hillsborough stayed undefeated. Taryn Grober and Carly Vadinsky each chipped in two hits, two runs and an RBI for the Raiders (5-0), while Arielle Couso singled twice, scored a run and knocked in another in the win.
Watchung Hills 10, High Point 0 (5 innings): Gina Priore finished 2-for-2 with a double, a run and three RBIs, and Nicole Carroccia blasted a three-run homer as Watchung Hills rolled. Kayla Schinik picked up two hits for the Warriors (4-2).
Columbia 7, Scotch Plains-Fanwood 6 (8 innings): Kyra Lockhart doubled, homered and drove in two runs and Erica Waltsak finished with two hits, two runs and an RBI, but Scotch Plains-Fanwood fell to 2-3. Rachel Butler went 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Raiders.
Notre Dame (PA) 7, Delaware Valley 0: Ashley Britt, Riley Ferrara and Justina Walck each singled for Delaware Valley (3-2).
Union Catholic Invitational
Ridge 10, Linden 0 (6 innings): Morgan Derrick fired a six-inning no-hitter, walking three and striking out nine as the Ridge High School softball team reached the win column with a 10-0 blanking of Linden in the opening round of the Union Catholic Invitation on Saturday in Scotch Plains. Derrick also starred with the bat, finishing 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. Kristina Mueller added four hits, including a double, scored a run and drove in four for the Red Devils (1-6). Caroline Heffernan chipped in two hits and two RBIs in the victory. The Tigers fell to 1-4.
Elizabeth 6, Ridge 4: After going deep in the opener, Morgan Derrick blasted her second homer of the afternoon, finishing the final by going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs for Ridge. Brittany Rickard tripled, scored and picked up an RBI for the Red Devils (1-7).
Elizabeth 13, Union Catholic 2: Kelly Grieco went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Isabel Santiago finished 1-for-2 with a run for Union Catholic (2-4) in the first round of the UC Invitational.
Union Catholic 9, Linden 7: Lea Gurval went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI and Emily Garno posted two hits and two RBIs for Union Catholic in the third-place game. Tyanna Reynolds also drove in two runs for the Vikings (3-4).
Cougar Classic at Chatham
Chatham 3, Bernards 1: Caroline Baratta hit a solo home run, her fourth of the season, but Bernards suffered its first loss. Sammi Re, Emily Dean and Ali Kramer also posted hits for the Mountaineers (4-1).
West Essex 9, Bernards 4: Mackenzie Dennis hit a three run homer in the first inning but Bernards couldn’t make it stand up and fell to 4-2. Emma Bowerbank notched two hits for the Mouinteers.
