Bernards 5, Voorhees 4: Emma Bowerbank singled in the tying run, before Emily Dean’s sacrifice fly drove in the winning run as the Bernards High School softball team scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday to rally for a 5-4 victory over Voorhees in Bernardsville.
The Mountaineers (8-2), trailed 4-0 heading to the fifth inning before Caroline Baratta smacked a two-out two-run homer to cut the lead in half.
Briann Ballow reached on a one-out walk to start the seventh, before scoring on a Sammi Re triple. A Bowerbank single to tie it follow by a Baratta double brought up Dean for the game-winner.
Voorhees (6-4) scored two runs in the first inning, as Victoria Furka scored on an error and Rachel Katzenberg came home on a Hanna Schiavo sacrifice fly. The Vikings added two more runs in the fourth on a two-run homer by Morgan Clemens.
Hunterdon Central 5, Franklin 1: Karissa Zubalake allowed a run on four hits, walked two and struck out 14 as Hunterdon Central won a Skyland Conference crossover. Zubulake also doubled and scored two runs for the Red Devils (9-2), while Marissa DeVincezo doubled and drove in three runs. Amanda Jordan finished 3-for-4 with a double and a homer for Franklin (4-6).
Immaculata 10, Montgomery 5: Emily Colline and Samantha Fabbricatore each notched three hits, two runs and three RBIs to fuel Immaculata. Alanna Pearson also collected three hits for the Spartans (3-5), scoring three runs and driving in two more. She also struck out 14 in earning the victory. Gillian O’Conner hit a three-run homer for Montgomery (4-3), while Emily Case blasted a two-run shot.
Watchung Hills 9, Westfield 0: Junior right-hander Alyssa Murray fired a one-hit shutout, walking two and striking out six to lift Watchung Hills. Julia Francione finished 2-for-4 with two runs and Gina Priore tripled and knocked in a run for the Warriors (8-4). Elena Elliot singled for Westfield (4-6).
Bridgewater-Raritan 16, Gill St. Bernard’s 2 (6 innings): Samantha Ward collected four hits, including three doubles, three runs and two RBIs to help power Bridgewater-Raritan. Deanna Centi finished 3-for-4 with a double, run and two RBIs, while allowing just three hits, three walks and striking out 12 as the Panthers improved to 9-2. Paige Knichel went 3-for-3 with a double and a run for the Knights (7-6).
Hillsborough 22, Ridge 0 (4 innings): Kelly Amen notched three hits, including a double, and four RBIs, and Taryn Grober and Grace Cofino each knocked in three runs for Hillsborough (10-0). Katie Gademsky allowed just one hit and one walk through four innings, striking out five. Katie Baach singled for Ridge (2-12).
Mount St. Mary 22, Rutgers Prep 1 (3 innings): Madison Bury doubled, tripled, scored three runs and knocked in three more and Colleen Verdic finished 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs for Mount St. Mary. Meredith Renzulli singled and drove in a run for Rutgers Prep.
Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament preliminary round
Newton 18, South Hunterdon 8 (5 innings): Taylor Farlee went 4-for-4 with a double, three runs and three RBIs and Mikayla Stoy went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for No. 9A-seeded South Hunterdon. Myranda Bond posted two hits and an RBI for the Eagles.
Union County Tournament preliminary round
Roselle Park 9, New Providence 8: Elizabeth Mohan homered for No. 20 New Providence, which nearly upset the No. 13 seed.
