Smoky Mountain baseball now 7-1

Smoky Mountain junior Jace Milkey got all the run support he needed Wednesday afternoon.

And he didn’t need much.

Milkey allowed just one hit in six innings, had 11 strikeouts, and the Mustangs beat Brevard, 8-1, in Sylva.

Smoky Mountain (7-1, 4-1) held a 5-0 lead after the first two innings and tacked on three insurance runs in the fifth and sixth.

Milkey gave up one unearned run and no walks.

At the plate, Jacob Gass was 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs, Bret Baldwin went 3-4, Matthew Ridley was 2-2 with an RBI and Cole Hooper went 1-3 with an RBI. Wednesday was the fifth straight win for Smoky Mountain, which travels to Rabun Gap (Ga.) for its next game Thursday.

Cole Batson and Tanner Pettit were both 1-for-3 for Brevard (1-7, 1-3).
