The snow and ice that covered a majority of West Tennessee on Monday morning did not meet the projected totals, but there was enough snow and ice on the ground to cancel all district championship and consolation games on the schedule.
A majority of the tournaments pushed back one day for now, but District 13-AAA at Dyer County and District 14-AA at Chester County were pushed back two days.
Those two districts will play the girls’ consolation and championship on Wednesday and the boys’ consolation and championship on Thursday.
Three of the area district tournaments are in better shape than the rest. The girls’ champion has already been decided in District 13-A, District 13-AA and District 15-AA, so all that remains is the boys’ consolation and championship.
And that is a good thing for District 13-A, which is being played at Bethel University, because Bethel has home basketball games Thursday night and Saturday afternoon.
So as long the district can get two more games in, the tournament will be complete.

The timetable for district tournaments getting finished was also aided on Monday morning by an announcement from the TSSAA office.
District tournaments were set to have to finish by Wednesday so that region quarterfinals could begin on Friday.
TSSAA decided to allow the districts to finish up by the end of the week and begin the region tournaments on Monday.
“It was a combination of many factors that led us to the decision,” TSSAA assistant Executive Director Matthew Gillespie said. “But first was the safety of the student-athletes, coaches and fans. This will relieve some of the pressure to try and get the district tournament done. Now they have a full week to complete the district tournament, and they are not going to have to try and complete the districts under not favorable conditions.”
Girls’ quarterfinals at the higher seed will be Monday at 7 p.m., while the boys’ quarterfinals at the higher seed will be Tuesday at 7 p.m.
If you are a true basketball fan, Wednesday will be your day with the TSSAA changes. The girls’ and boys’ semifinals will all be played on Wednesday with game times at 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at a central site.
The Region 7-A tournament is at Bethel University, Region 8-A tournament at Trinity Christian Academy, Region 7-AA at Westview and Region 8-AA at Covington.
Both the girls’ and boys’ championships will be Thursday at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
The TSSAA has implemented this region tournament format across the state and wants everyone to use it.
“It was easiest to do this statewide because everyone was affected,” Gillespie said. “So this applies to everyone.”
But TSSAA Executive Director Bernard Childress did release a statement about playing earlier than Monday.
“We would approve a request from administrators in a region if everyone involved agrees to start the later part of this week,” Childress said. “However, we are asking every district to err on the side of safety. Consideration will be given to districts and regions that have completed their tournament and do not want to wait and/or practice before playing again.”
This format means that for a boys’ team to win a region championship the team will have to win three games on three consecutive days.
“We have done this format in the past, and actually we did this format longer than the current format that we have,” Gillespie said.
