John Jay High School’s softball team ended the regular season with a bang Friday.
The Patriots hit two three-run home runs in the seventh inning in an 18-6 road win over Arlington in Freedom Plains. Tori Dixon (3 for 5, three RBI) and Sam Fitzgerald (4 for 5, six RBI) each homered for John Jay in the inning.
With John Jay up 10-0 in the fifth, Arlington scored six runs. John Jay tacked on a run in the sixth before exploding in the seventh.
Bridgette Rooney led John Jay with two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored for John Jay (16-4).
Shannon Jasiel was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored for Arlington (10-10). Lauren Fazio was 1 for 3 with two RBI and a run scored.
Both teams will learn their Section 1 Class AA tournament seeds on Monday.
“We have some confidence. We had a good win against Wallkill (Thursday), but it was a tough stretch to end the season, losing six out of seven,” Arlington coach Dave Ballantyne said. “Aside from the John Jay games, we were in all of the games. We need to play clean and stay focused. We have a chance to surprise some people come sectionals.”
