The softball team from Franklin D. Roosevelt High School won the Troopers Foundation Tournament at Mudville Softball Complex in Herkimer Saturday, beating both New Hartford (Connecticut) and Section 2’s Columbia from the Capital Region.
The Presidents first defeated New Hartford 6-1, then handed a 7-4 loss to Columbia.
Allison Pritchard started both games for Roosevelt. In the win over New Hartford, she collected eight strikeouts over seven innings. At the plate, she finished 1 for 3 with two runs scored. Pritchard struck out four in seven innings against Columbia.
Madchen Knauss finished 3 for 4 with three RBI against New Hartford. Adding offense were Maddy Lee (1 for 2, run), Michaela Damore (RBI), and Kendall Whitman (2 for 4).
Over Columbia, Amanda Owens finished 4 for 4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Knauss and Carissa Punkosdy each added an RBI.
The Presidents travel to Marlboro at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.
Pine Plains wins Amelio tournament — Anna Lonczak was 3 for 5 with four RBI as host Pine Plains won the Philip Amelio Memorial Tournament with an 18-1 win over Red Hook in the championship game.
Cat Simmons and Jo Schmidt added two hits for Pine Plains and Alex McKenzie had her first varsity hit. Riley Croghan struck out six and walked one, allowing no runs over seven innings.
Earlier Saturday, Pine Plains beat Rondout Valley in a semifinal 10-3. Lonczak was 4 for 4 with a double. Croghan had three hits. Makayla Long, Jaimee Kennett and Simmons each had two hits.
Red Hook defeated Rhinebeck 16-8 in the other semifinal. Lauren Marici had a double. Nicole Marici had a triple and three runs scored. Grace Folmsbee was 2 for 4 with a double. Jordan Ball was 2 for 5 with two runs scored. Brooke Corbett was 3 for 3 with three runs scored. Ally Jerro-Greco was 2 for 2 with three runs scored and a triple. For Rhinebeck, Mikalen Holt, Anna Charny and Annabeth Gausepohl each scored two runs.
Rondout Valley defeated Rhinebeck 8-6 in the consolation game.
Late Friday, Pine Plains beat Webutuck 24-1.
Our Lady of Lourdes 8, Spackenkill 0 — Anna Anderson struck out 14 hitters in seven innings as the host Warriors picked up their third straight win.
Laura Pedevillano (two triples, RBI, two runs), Chloe Weeks (single, double, triple, four RBI), and Casey O’Brien (two singles, RBI) stood out for Lourdes on offense.
“You can see it in their faces – they’re more confident,” Lourdes coach Caroline Webber said. “They want to continue and keep up the wins.”
Charlotte Palumbo worked three walks for Spackenkill.
Lourdes (3-3) visits Walter Panas at 4:30 p.m. Monday. Spackenkill hosts Dover at 4:15 p.m. Monday.
Arlington B 17, Beacon 9 — In the consolation game of the Dawgfest at Beacon High School, Cecilia McPeck finished 3 for 5 with three runs scored for the winners.
Miranda Dross (3 for 4, RBI, run) and Sierra Lombardi (1 for 3, RBI, run) contributed for the Bulldogs.
Arlington B hosts Horace Greeley at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, and Beacon will host Peekskill at 4:30 p.m.
Dover 21, Webutuck 0 — Mackenzie Taggart struck out nine leading the host Dragons to a win over the Warriors.
Emily Lundgren had an RBI and scored four runs, while Danielle Yeno added three hits, including a double, three RBI and three runs scored.
For Webutuck, Theresa Schoonmaker went 2 for 3.
John Jay-Cross River 1, Roy C. Ketcham 0 — In Katonah, Karissa DellaVecchia pitched six innings, walked three batters and struck out five for the Indians. Cross River scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on an error.
Addison Brandemarte and Kyra-lee Scianna collected singles for Ketcham.
