A blowout win Wednesday morning kept South Gibson’s softball team alive in the loser’s bracket of the Class AA state tournament, but the Lady Hornets didn’t take advantage of it Thursday.
Christian Academy of Knoxville eliminated South Gibson from its first ever appearance state tournament with a convincing 12-0 win over the Lady Hornets.
CAK senior Delaney Brown tagged South Gibson junior starter Kaitlyn Martin with a first-inning grand slam and second-inning three-run homer. CAK scored seven runs in the first inning and five more in the second.
Madelyn Mosier pitched two innings of scoreless relief for South Gibson, and the sophomore also broke up CAK starter Allison Zimmerman’s no-hitter with a fifth-inning single. Mosier and Taylor Benton each had one walk.
South Gibson earned a spot in the state tournament for the first time with a 6-1 sectional win over Ripley.
