The Southwood Lady Cowboys held Airline to just a single field goal in the first quarter and got 26 points on five 3-pointers from Jaiylan Brown to vault past Airline 58-12 in the District 1-5A matchup.

“I’m very proud of these girls. We had a great defensive effort tonight,” Southwood coach Terry Josting said. “We played with intensity and got after them pretty good.”

Danesha Hall added 9 points for Southwood (13-5, 2-0), while Traciona Russell led Airline (6-8, 1-1)) with 7 points.

Loyola 42, Richwood 38: At Monroe, the Lady Flyers scored just one field goal in the first quarter but still managed to get past Richwood in the non-district contest. Amber Smith led the way with 22 points, while Chelsea Johnson added 10 for Loyola (12-6). Shay Thomas tossed in 15 for Richwood.

Captain Shreve 58, Haughton 52: Dezyre Black led all scorers with 23 points and Victoria Hart added 15 as the Lady Gators picked up the early District 1-5A victory.

Bethany Knotts totaled 13 points and Inez Green 12 for the Lady Bucs.

Evangel 53, Parkway 43: A big night from freshman Tiara Young propelled the Lady Eagles past the Lady Panthers. Young poured in 30 points and pulled down 10 rebounds on the night, while Breonna Frierson hauled in 11 boards. The Lady Panthers were led by Niaya Fant with 12 points and Chelsea Randle with 11.

Plain Dealing 48, Haynesville 30: Draunatika Thomas scored 16 points for the Lady Lions (10-4, 2-0) in the District 1-1A contest. Dra Briggs added 9 points.

BOYS

Southwood 76, Loyola 38: The Cowboys (11-3) nailed 10 3-pointers and held the Flyers without a field goal in the third quarter in rolling to the non-district victory. Shakelvin Calhoun led the way with 17 points, while Jaylon Payne added 15, Tyrek Jones 12 and Yancey Kelly 11. Tony Dorsey topped Loyola with 23 points.

Parkway 56, Ruston 34: At Ruston, Terrance Dodson tossed in 11 points and Qua Jackson added 10 as the Panthers continued on a roll.
