ST. JOHNS – St. Johns High School’s dance team will compete in the National Dance Team Championship at Disney World in Orlando, Fla.
The team will be flying out on Thursday, Jan 29. The competition is televised on ESPN, with teams who make the finals being highlighted.
The event will take place Jan. 29 to Feb. 2. Broadcast dates have not yet been published
St. Johns will be dancing in the large varsity hip-hop and large varsity jazz categories.

Several St. Johns area businesses have made donations to help support our trip to Florida, and the team has sponsored several fund raisers.
A fundraiser to support the trip will be a princess tea party March 7. Last year, over 400 guests attended. This year, we’re adding a second show and can accommodate up to 800 guests.

The dance team won the Grand Champion trophy in a field of seven teams at a recent competition of Jenison High School.
St. Johns dominated the competition Jan. 17, taking first place in jazz and first place in hip hop.
In both categories, the second place team trailed by more than 20 points. East Grand Rapids finished second and Greenville was third .
In the jazz category, East Kentwood was second and Durand took third.
Other teams competing included Hudsonville, West Ottawa, Wayland, Byron Center, and Coopersville.
The team is coached by Michelle Lindquist.
Seniors on the team include Tess Rowland, Lyndsay Pung, Meredith Robbins, Stephanie Ebert, Ashley Heyer, Ashlyn Seibert, Nikki Salander, and Christi Jorae.
Juniors include Mikayla Bramble, Amulya Jain, Kara Hartenburg, Amber Rubie, Shelby Stockwell, and Meagan Leasher.
Sophomores include Haley McCastle, Olivia Langdon, Kyleigh Langdon, Stephanie Hallwood, Kristal Hartman, and Emily Chamberlain.
Freshmen team members are Courtney Ladisky, Aruna Jain, and Ryleigh Zell.
