The Tigers (10-6) will play the Shamrocks, 8:30 p.m. Wednesday
Ashanti Burgess’ 20 points on 7 of 14 shooting led St. Xavier to a 54-49 victory over North Bullitt on Monday in the Louisville Invitational Tournament and set up another game against top-ranked Trinity less than a week after the rivals first met.
The Tigers (10-6) will play the Shamrocks, No. 1 in The Courier-Journal’s Litkenhous Ratings, at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in a second-round game at Valley.
St. X outscored North Bullitt 12-1 at the free throw line, but the Tigers shot just 57 percent from the charity stripe, allowing the Eagles to keep it close throughout. The Tigers also had to overcome 19 turnovers.
“I don’t think that was our best effort on both ends of the floor, but it was good enough to win and advance to Wednesday night,” coach Kevin Klein said.
William Olsen added 12 for the Tigers. Ricky Dunnavan led North Bullitt with 14 points, and Dominique Ellis added 10.
