Florida Class 7A state champion St. Thomas Aquinas will open the 2015 football season against three-time Class 4A state champion Booker T. Washington of Miami, according to a report.
The game is tentatively set for Aug. 28 (week zero) and is expected to be played at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, pending potential conflicts with the Miami Dolphins and the stadium’s ongoing renovations.
St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) finished the season 14-1 and No. 25 in the final Super 25 rankings. Booker T. Washington went 15-0 and finished at No. 2 in the rankings behind Bishop Gorman. The Tornadoes have a 41-game winning streak. Booker T. Washington finished its season with a win in the Burger King State Champions Bowl Series.
Both teams are still looking for head coaches. Aquinas’ Rocco Casullo resigned in mid-January and the position has remained vacant. Washington’s Tim Harris Jr. accepted at job on the coaching staff at Florida International last week and the school has already posted the job to find his replacement.
Aquinas athletic director George Smith told the Sun-Sentinel that the teams also will open the 2016 season, although a site has not been determined.
