The winter high school season is reaching its climax.
This is the final week of the regular season for high school basketball, and conference titles will be decided. Playoff brackets for basketball come out Sunday.
Wrestling is next up on the state championship journey, with titles being handed out Saturday at the conclusion of the three days of madness in Denver.
Here are this week’s top high school events:
Thursday: Fort Collins at Poudre boys basketball, 7 p.m. If Fort Collins takes care of business and beats Broomfield on Tuesday night, Thursday’s local showdown would be a chance for the Lambkins to seal the Front Range League title.
Fort Collins and Fossil Ridge enter the week tied atop the FRL, but the Lambkins hold the tiebreaker after beating the SaberCats last week. Two wins this week and Fort Collins is the FRL champ.
Thursday through Saturday: State wrestling. A total of 21 wrestlers from the area will be at the state tournament in Denver.
Windsor is ranked No. 3 in Class 4A and has 12 wrestlers going to state. Rocky Mountain is sending four to state, including three (Danny Murphy, Roman Ortiz and Konnor Schmidt) who are ranked in the top three of their weight class.
Poudre has three wrestlers (Brody Lamb, Jacob Greenwood and Diego Calderon) at state, and Fort Collins has two (Stephan Ikeler and Jon Engle).
