Division II district swimming Friday at Ohio University.
Abby Stone and Timmy Spichiger each were double winners in individual events Friday to lead their respective Granville teams to third-place finishes in the Division II district meet at Ohio University.
The top two finishers in each event automatically qualify to next week’s state meet. At-large berths will be given later this weekend.
Stone’s victories in the girls meet came in the 100 backstroke (55.45) and 200 individual medley (2:03.49), a meet record. She also joined Sarah Martin, Paige Griesse and Maggie McGonagle in winning the 200 medley relay (1:48.49).
Spichiger’s victories in the boys meet came in the 200 freestyle (1:45.10) and 500 free (4:46.83), a meet record, and Grant Stahl won the 100 butterfly (52.37), edging out a Dover competitor by one one-hundredth of a second.
Other top Granville placers in the girls meet were Martin in the 200 free (2nd, 1:56.42) and in the 100 fly (4th, 58.89); Griesse in the 200 free (4th, 1:57.68) and 50 free (5th, 54.12) and Eva Vivero in the diving (5th, 432.95).
Other top area placers were Newark Catholic’s Megan Stanton in the 50 free (8th, 26.39) and 100 free (9th, 57.09) and Northridge’s Katelyn Darby in the 500 free (10th, 5:45.39) and in the 200 IM (10th, 2:24.31) and Josie Bunstine in the 100 breaststroke (10th, 1:12.34) and in the 100 fly (10th, 1:02.55).
Other top Granville finishers in the boys meet were Stahl in the 200 IM (2nd, 1:58.21), Connor McDermott in the diving (3rd, 354.05) and the foursome of Spichiger, Stahl, Rowan Moore and Colin McDermott in both the 200 free (2nd, 1:33.24) and 200 medley (3rd, 1:41.54) relays.
Lakewood’s Nathaniel Graham placed 10th in the 200 free (1:56.99) and 11th in the 100 back (59.29).
